Our first pick up at our new CSA!! Community Supported Agriculture (our Produce Bags came in HANDY!)

Yesterday was our first pick up from Sweet Pea CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)- yeahh! We got tons of yummy fruits, vegetables, farm fresh eggs, even lavender by the bushel. Our CSA partners with 2 Farms- Garden of Eve Farm in Riverhead, NY on the east end of Long Island and High Point Farms in Ithaca NY.  Everyone volunteers atleast once during the season (now through the fall) so my Big Gorilla nicely did his part yesterday– here he is manning the fruit share table (TONS of yummy strawberries– I am going to make an old favorite and a new dessert recipe someone gave me today– see below for both recipes).

I came armed with our set of Produce Bags- which are perfect because you can bring everything home in them (no plastic bags!), wash them, store them… all in these great mesh bags. Produce Bags, set of 5– $11.50. If you are interested in learning more about CSA’s click here, or the Sweet Pea CSA in Brooklyn Heights- click here!

and here is my famous, not to be missed STRAWBERRY SPINACH SALAD recipe (this was given to me several years ago by my dear friend Shelton and I LOVE to make it when the strawberries are in season):

SPINACH
CRUMBLED BLUE CHEESE OR FETA
ONE PINT FRESH STRAWBERRIES
CHOPPED UP TOASTED WALNUTS OR ALMONDS

DRESSING:
1 1/2 TEASPOON MINCED ONION
1/4 CUP APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
1/2 CUP CORN OIL
2 TABLESPOONS SESAME SEEDS
1 TABLESPOON POPPY SEEDS
1/2 CUP SUGAR
1/4 TEASPOON WORCESTSHIRE
1/4 TEASPOON PAPRIKA
2 TEASPOONS LEMON JUICE

and tonight I am also going to try this that a friend had the other night and raved about-

Strawberry Fluff Freeze

1. In large electric mixing bowl, combine
1 cup drained, hulled fresh strawberries, cut up
1 1/4 cup granulated sugar (I used less but feel it was still to sweet)
1 egg white
1/8 tsp. salt

2. At high speed, beat until light and stiff – about 10 minutes
3. Fold into above mixture:
1 cup whipping cream (already beaten to med-stiff consistency)
4. Put into bowl and then freeze
5. Serve with fresh cut strawberries

BON APPETIT!!
