Dads are the Original Hipsters- THE BOOK

7231

Father’s Day will be here in a few weeks, which reminds me of this hilarious book (based off the blog with the same name)- Dads are the Original Hipsters. We have it on our front table and we have gotten so many comments saying- THAT IS TOTALLY MY DAD!! The book is awesome- with vintage photos of real dads back in the day—in their short shorts and tight tees playing arcade games that accompany snarky captions that at once tip a cap to Dad’s glory days and poke fun at modern hipsters. It’s a gem. Dads are the Original Hipsters- $12.95.

Two Brides Card, $4

Same-sex marriage has been gaining a lot of momentum lately, and we are in full support! The Obama administration’s recent brief to the US  Supreme Court calling for broad constitutional protection will hopefully lead to nation-wide recognition of gay unions. Even President Bill Clinton, who signed the Defense of Marriage Act into law is urging that it now be struck down as unconstitutional. It’s encouraging to see such a shift in perception.  If you haven’t yet heard the heartwarming story of a gay couple finding a baby on the subway, you must read this. And grab some tissues. They were finally able to legalize their marriage just last year. Love is love regardless of sex, race, or ethnicity, and we need to put an end to all forms of discrimination.

Not Your Mother’s Cookbook….

7894

It’s not exactly Betty Crocker, but our newest cookbook is packed full of sinfully-delicious recipes. Fifty Shades of Chicken…yes, that’s right…..is a Fifty Shades parody/cookbook. We nearly laughed ourselves to the floor when this book came in stock. The text is seriously hilarious, and paired with the photography (don’t worry–there’s nothing NSFW in here…..although reading the text might make you blush) and genuinely delicious-looking recipes you have  a funny AND functional cookbook!

Advent Calendar Countdown to Le Mis— love this customer’s story…

advent image

We met this fun new customer the other day– she was looking for an advent calendar. Here is Aliza’s story- LOVE IT!! Had to share…

My boyfriend–a former military officer (picture above) and current trucking executive; a former builder of jeeps and current turner of pens; a former New England winter surfer and current New York kiteboarder; a former grower of mustaches and current cultivator of beards; a former rifle competitor and current archery whiz; a former brewer of craft beer and current appreciator of fine scotch–loves Broadway musicals. And his favorite–former, current and for all time–is Les Miserables.

Since teaser trailers began popping up about a year ago for the upcoming Hollywood version, he’s been tracking them with a seriousness of purpose. He’s been making plans for where we’ll see it on Christmas Day (after we eat our Chinese food.) He’s been counting down the days. But until this Saturday, only figuratively.

Thanks to Annie’s Blue Ribbon General Store, what was formerly figurative is currently literal. For the rest of December, Jesse will use his very first Advent calendar to count down the days to the opening of Les Miserables.

(And I found out about this wonderful store from my co-worker Careyanne, a friend of Annie’s. Her husband–a Les Mis fan, as well–will also be counting down the the days with an Annie’s Advent calender of his own).
Thanks soo much Aliza and Careyanne!
Still need a Chocolate Advent Calendar?? We’ve still got a few– check them out here
