And that can mean only one thing: It’s time to get your mint julep ingredients together! We have these beautiful mint julep cups in the shop to make things easy on you! Below is our favorite recipe (courtesy of Epicurious)
The makings for one drink:
*1 scant amount of minted simple syrup
*2 cups crushed ice
*2 ounces bourbon
*Fresh mint spring for garnish
First things first! To make the simple syrup, heat 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar in a medium weight saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Increase the heat slightly, then simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Take the pan off the heat and add one bunch of mint leaves and let them steep for 15 minutes. Strain and chill.
Now, unto the drink! Grab your silver mint julep cup. Add minted simple syrup, then 1 cup crushed ice, bourbon and a splash of water. Add enough of remaining ice to fill glass. Stir well and garnish with mint sprig.
Finally, you can enjoy the Derby!

We just added a new title to our magazine selection and it is my new obsession! Sweet Paul is based on the beautiful blog of Paul Lowe, a master of cooking and crafting. The quarterly magazine is packed full of delicious recipes, fun crafts, and clever decor ideas. The photography is absolutely gorgeous on heavy matte paper, earning this a permanent spot on my bookshelf, instead of heading to the recycling pile. I already have a few recipes (figuratively) earmarked: Brussel Sprouts with Blue Cheese, Asparagus and Lemon Ricotta Tarts, Ramp Chimichurri….and the cakes! Oh, the cakes. If they taste a fraction of how good they look this mag is worth it’s weight in gold. Carrot Cakes, Oreo Cakes, Maple Syrup Cakes, Malibu Cake (a twist on a coconut cake with Malibu rum)….yes, this is just in one issue. If you manage to make it past all that without overdosing on DELICIOUS, then you can even learn to make fun stuff like paper flowers. Here’s to the Sweet (Paul) Life!!
We are so excited to have The Laundress at the shop on Saturday, April 26 from 11am – 12pm, demonstrating the proper way to care for our clothes and get rid of those stubborn stains! The time has finally arrived for some spring cleaning and that means washing those winter clothes the right way before you officially put them away. We know you will walk away a laundry expert! See you then!
Hands down, our Peter Beaton Sailor Shirts are our go-to every morning when we pick out what to wear. We love a good stripe cotton shirt! Also, the crew neck cut is quite flattering. Board your yacht and take sail. Or be Parisian for the day. Either way, you will look and feel fabulous! Available S, M, L. $64.
