And that can mean only one thing: It’s time to get your mint julep ingredients together! We have these beautiful mint julep cups in the shop to make things easy on you! Below is our favorite recipe (courtesy of Epicurious)
The makings for one drink:
*1 scant amount of minted simple syrup
*2 cups crushed ice
*2 ounces bourbon
*Fresh mint spring for garnish
First things first! To make the simple syrup, heat 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar in a medium weight saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Increase the heat slightly, then simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Take the pan off the heat and add one bunch of mint leaves and let them steep for 15 minutes. Strain and chill.
Now, unto the drink! Grab your silver mint julep cup. Add minted simple syrup, then 1 cup crushed ice, bourbon and a splash of water. Add enough of remaining ice to fill glass. Stir well and garnish with mint sprig.
Finally, you can enjoy the Derby!
